Conveying technology for Australia

Intelligent conveying technology sent again to Australia

Since 2006 MINDA has supplied innovative, customized solutions for the internal material transport and logistics to Australia. Continuous customer care has lead to deliveries to Rocklea and Scoresby. At present, technology which is no longer up-to-date is replaced at Orora Fibre Packaging in Revesby (Sydney area).

The manufacturer of folded boxes and packages made of corrugated board invests into a new loading center for finished goods. The entire process from the production of the corrugated board up to printing, die-cutting, glueing etc is effected in stacks without pallets. However, the final transport to the customers require that the goods are positioned and protected on pallets. Therefore, a MINDA loading center for finished goods is integrated, where up to 200 corrugated board stacks are automatically palletized per hour. A robot feeds the pallets to the loading process and a robot for protection sheets provides the individual cover for the stacks. In addition, the existing conveying technology is updated. Especially in safety-relevant areas they replaced the conveying technology.

The plant, which has been ordered in June 2014, was installed and commissioned between Christmas and New Year's Eve so that the production start could be realized beginning of January 2015.

Miro Horvatovic, electro-technical maintenance manager at Orora, visited Minda in Minden for two weeks. Together with the project manager René Kropp he visited reference plants in order to get an idea about the smooth production of similar solutions. At the same time, they visited possible future development possibilities for the Autralian factory.

The actual aim of the visit at Minda, however, was to learn how to control the future plant and to be trained in the SPS technology. For this purpose, all machine components were completely installed at MINDA. After the maintenance manager had convinced himself of the smooth operation, he gave his approval. The equipment could then be dismantle in shipping dimensions and sent to Australia in 6 containers, where it was expected beginning of December.

The care and service during the start-up phase is also ensured despite the time shift between Germany and Australia. MINDA provides an 24-h-service for their electronic controls. Many customers require a contact person outside the normal business hours, as the time shift becomes more and more important with the increasing export portion of 80 %. This on-call duty guarantees fast reactions, as the MINDA engineers have direct access to the respective equipment via VPN and can analyze and repair the errors resp. carry out required modifications in the processes.
